The record that got The Jesus and Mary Chain off the dole and into the charts. The provocative East Kilbride four piece - fronted by Jim Reid - lent into their taste for loud guitar noise and dented the lower end of the top 40 in the UK and landed high in many critics' end of year lists upon its first release in 1985. Part of the key to its success was 'Just Like Honey' - the way in which it samples the drum beat from The Ronettes' 1963 hit, 'Be My Baby' and combines with Reid's lackadaisical vocal, where, despite sounding like he's singing from the bottom of a well, he oozes cool. If there's anyone that's nearly as cool as The Jesus and Mary Chain qualified to release it then it's Jack White and suitably this audiophile label has done a thorough hi-res remaster brining next level clarity to those stormy guitars.
