The context in which our work is placed focuses on consuming as much diverse content as quickly as possible, rather than extracting as much content as possible from a single work.
The works of visual artists are scrolled through, and never revisited, while musical works are taken out of context and mixed into playlists with AI slop.
As an underground artist, it's hard to reach a wider audience without uploading your music to streaming services. On the other hand, streaming services dehumanize all the work and take individual parts out of context for easier consumption.
The money earned from plays on these platforms is then transferred to, for example, investments in weapons used to murder people in the Gaza Strip.
Spotify displays recruitment ads for ICE, which turns the streaming platform into a propaganda tool, to which we as artists, willingly or unwillingly, contribute by releasing our music there.
With this knowledge, we still choose not to quit these services out of convenience and habit of using these platforms. Let's support the artists by purchasing their art directly from them, rather than exploiting them through streaming services out of convenience.
