Over the course of his two-decade career, Prins Thomas has often used his solo albums as a way to explore the more cosmic and otherworldly end of his musical output. There's no high-minded concept or desire to experiment - at least outside his usual genre-bending 'kosmiche'-fired disco sound - on the self-titled Thomas Moen Hermansen, his tenth solo EP. Instead, he leans into the more dancefloor focused end of his sound, conjuring killer cuts from a blend of loose-limbed live drums, dubby bass guitar lines, trippy effects, acid style TB-303 trickery, spacey synths and occasional nods to wide-eyed synth-pop and hazy Balearic flavours. It's a smart move, as it gives the long-serving producer the opportunity to showcase what he does best. In truth, few do cosmic, dubbed-out disco better.
