London-based multi-instrumentalist Shabaka turns hermetic here on his third solo album, taking full control of the writing and production. The return to saxophone feels deliberate and personal, and framed by electronics and global percussion that never crowd the centre. The sound moves patiently, built from breath, pulse and space, each element placed with care rather than spectacle. The music resists obvious peaks. Woodwinds coil around low electronic currents, rhythms surface briefly then dissolve, and melodies feel spoken more than announced. 'A Future Untold' and 'Those Of The Sky' establish a steady, contemplative atmosphere, whilst 'Go Astray' and 'Step Lightly' move patiently and resist the obvious climaxes. 'Call The Power' and 'Dance In Praise' bring a firmer rhythmic presence. On the second half, 'Ol' Time African Gods' and 'Marwa The Mountain' sit with gravity, closing on the subdued focus of 'Eyes Lowered'. It's inward-looking, measured music.
