L.A.-based, cross-Californian duo Introverted Funk seem to understand analogue boogie disco lineage without becoming beholden to it on 'Body's Groove'. The pair draw deeply from disco, boogie and r&b traditions and reshapes them with a tactile sense of craft that is big on warmth without getting too perfect in the finish. Vintage gear brings plenty of weight and texture to every bassline and synth flourish as the tunes unfold with laid-back swing with a subtle propulsion that keeps things moving. Breezy melodies drift through carefully arranged rhythms, while low-end pressure grounds the more cosmic flourishes. There is a pleasing cohesion to it all that comes over as a modern take on classic forms.
