The recent resurrection of Steve O'Sullivan's Bluetrain project, the UK techno veteran's dub-fired techno project, has been a joy to behold. Originally inspired by Rhythm & Soul and Basic Channel, it lay dormant for 13 years before beginning to work on new music late last decade. This fine three-tracker marks O'Sullivan's first fresh Bluetrain release for almost two years. A-side 'Conquering Lion' hits the spot, with the long-serving artist wrapping echoing dub techno synths, soulful reggae style vocal snippets and delay-heavy percussion around a deep dub bassline and propulsive house drums. On the flip, we get dub style 'versions': the tougher and more spaced-out 'Rollin Dub' and the more minimalistic dub techno style hypnotism of 'Studio Dub'.
