Chapter 1 brings both a continuation and reset for UK soul saviours Sault, the mysterious experimental soul supergroup, elements of whose collective identity have slowly been borne in recent years. Their 13th album, we once again hear Inflo's production merge in studied, baptismal grace with Cleo Sol's leading voice, following a string of surprise digital drops to orchestral shows and Mercury-nominated solo projects. Here though, the presence of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis adds a legacy lineage of soul craft, while Jack PeNate and Cleo Sol deepen the pathos; the divine cinematics coursing through earlier albums is less present here, Sault preferring greater funk rock immediacy for the likes of 'Chapter 1' and 'Create Your Prophecy'.
