Criz Hall and Steve Conry's revitalised 1990s label Ten Lovers Music is one of the few house labels to embrace the seven-inch format. This double-header, featuring cuts from Mother Tongue Records founder Patrick Gibin and deep house legend Javontte, marks the seventh instalment in the label's occasional "45" series. Gibin delivers 'Flash Point', a hybrid (and undeniably spacey) 80s jazz-funk and electrofunk affair underpinned by squelchy bass and chunky deep house drums. Javontte goes off in a different direction on 'Wind of Seven Seas', wrapping colourful synth chords and breezy flute solos around a shuffling Latin jazz groove. It's not house per se, but it is is exceptionally good.
