Back in 2017, R&S Records offshoot Apollo re-introduced the world to the sublime 1990s work of videogame soundtrack designer-turned-ambient house producer Yuji Takenouchi aka Mr YT. That was via a superb retrospective, whereas this is something even more special: the Japanese producer's first fresh EP of new music for 28 years. Those familiar with his superb music of the late 90s will feel right at home, as it swims in similar sonic waters. For proof, check gorgeous opener 'Acurio', with its colourful waves of synthesiser melodies, locked-in techno-tempo beats, dreamy chords and elastic bass, the immersive and tactile excellence of 'Escorpio', and the Mr YT meets Soichi Terada style brilliance of 'Tauro'. Ambient closer 'Piscis', a much more slow-burn affair built around swelling pads and gentle melodies, is also superb.
