You get the sense that Canadian duo Angine de Poitrine would be faintly baffled by any attempt to explain them, which is probably part of the appeal. A pair of time-warped rock obsessives with a fixation on hot dogs and pyramids, they approach the whole enterprise with a straight face and a slightly crooked logic. Vol. II pushes their already peculiar formula further into the red. 'Fabienk' arrives in a tangle of microtonal guitar lines and piston-like drums, while 'Mata Zyklek' tightens and frays at the same time, as if unsure whether to dance or derail. 'Perep Utz' goes into harder into the trance-like repetition, then nudges it sideways just when it starts to settle. It's faintly absurd, and oddly compelling.
