On her latest full-length excursion, multi-talented Italian artist System Olympia (real name Francesca Macri) invites us to join her on more "night rides in my Mercedes Benz". In keeping with her trademark sound, the saucily titled Double Climax sees her blur the boundaries between deep house, nu-disco, Italians Do It Better style analogue electro, widescreen synthesiser soundtrack works, sleazy electro-pop, immersive electronic dreaminess and dubby, hard-to-pigeonhole slow jams. It's evocative, stylish and carefully crafted, with a genuine retro-futurist vibe and a smattering of autotune-sporting neo-new-wave pop songs. It may not push her towards superstardom, but it has the feel of another important step on the road to wider underground acclaim.
