Albums are often presented as a meeting of minds. Collaborative projects are the obvious example, and there are many excellent cases. Less often are you faced with a record which is the meeting of a two minds stuck inside a single person, but in many ways Music for Tombak & Synth is just that. Cinna Peyghamy reconnecting with Persian roots - hence the 'tombak' bit (an Iranian percussive instrument) - while exploring modern sound design ('synth'). Obvious bits stated, Music For... is wildly imaginative stuff that presents a multitude of textures, styles of acoustic movement, and ways of interpreting feelings through sound. Unsurprisingly, given the concept, its genesis was actually a master's degree thesis. Amazingly, despite a litany of relatively abstract moments, Peyghamy has created consistently engaging sounds that draw you further into a vivid sonic universe.
