UK experimental group Coil worked Backwards in 1992, rising from the seismic crater left behind by their 1990 album Love's Secret Domain. The project evolved through 1993-95, moving to New Orleans in 1996 to be completed at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios, with John Balance's humming vocals honed to a haunting, expressive peak. This tenth anniversary version presents the original recordings, differing substantially from the later 2008 New Backwards remix, and includes seminals 'A Cold Cell' and 'Fire Of The Mind' in forms first intended by the band, not by the market. At just 500 copies, it's a cold-stored dark-matter radiation in sound, braveable only by the most adventurous of listeners.
