Hashman Deejay launches his new So3ar imprint with the sort of unhinged statement that is going to get plenty of people hooked in from the start. The 12" introduces the NeWRoomfreaK alias through five tracks of sampler-built machine music with the rough edges and imperfections wisely left in. The whole thing has been recorded on vintage hardware and assembled with a sense of intuition rather than being outcome-led. Warped techno, broken rave, hip-hop and low-slung bass pressure all bubble up through the tunes without defining the overall sound. The result is music that sounds as though it's being invented in real time and is wonderfully strange, uncompromising and packed with personality.
