Four years after delivering their critically acclaimed debut album, keyboardist-drummer duo Domi & JD Beck return with sophomore set Who Asked? The pair, who have famously worked with big hitters Thundercat and Anderson Paak, are renowned for the skittish, breathless, high-octane and hard-to-pigeonhole nature of their signature sound, which label Blue Note has dubbed "70s fusion for the TikTok generation". Both Domi and Beck are hugely talented players, able to deliver high-octane solos and rhythms while incorporating elements of jazz, r&b, 'soft pop' (as Blue Note puts it) and elements more associated with electronic music. The results, far more finely crafted than their public persona suggests, are rarely less than mind-blowing.
