After toppling 2021's year-end charts - with their atmospheric, streetside techno (and more) debut Honest Labour - Manchester duo Space Afrika are back with another. Quiet Storm is nothing close to Sade's lounge-friendly style. Rather, Joshua Tarelle Reid and Joshua Inyang turn in a considerably more populated record, taking a different, more fractured angle on their trip hop, techno and ambient approach that made their joint name. Poised as a self-challenge around notions of identity and class, their next LP takes new cues from modern classical compositional techniques, bringing hard-and-soft production tension, and musing on reconciliation and inner demons.
