One thing that Hidden Hawaii do well, apart from the sick beats, of course, is maintaining their artist's anonymity. Late Echo Express is a perfect example of this, and all we know about this mystery producer is that he's released one white label for the imprint's offshoot, SUB. Here, and across most of the EP, we're dropped headfirst into a dubbed-out swarm of lo-fi techno in "Track 1", a slow mechanical sway that becomes more glitchy and spaced-out on "Track 2". "Track 3", on the other hand, is a hollow blast of circling drones, wrapped together by a dusty layer of tape-machine echo. It's music borne out of pure improvisation, a bedroom DJ's dream come true. Spot on, as per usual.
