Universally recognised as Coil's first proper live outing, this Royal Festival Hall performance captures John Balance, Peter [Sleazy] Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra and Ossian Brown at their most transfixing. Dressed in surreal polar-fur Teletubby suits, the group summon a set that echoes the sustained tones of Time Machines but pushes further with dynamic shifts, layering and unsettling tension. Balance's delivery on 'Queens Of The Circulating Library' is measured and incantatory, worlds apart from the feral intensity of later years. Extended drones unravel across 'Chasms Pt 1' and 'Chasms Pt 2', while 'Everything Keeps Dissolving' lives up to its title, collapsing structure into pure sonic hypnosis. A mesmerising document, it sets the stage for Coil's intense and all too brief live era.
