Sweden's Beatconductor drops another 7" in his Gatt series with two potent nu-disco commixtures; the A selects for soul with a classic Willie Hutch rework, adding a fresh citrine twist to Hutch's originally devoted, fess-up vocals. On the flip, he reworks Jay Williams' 'Testify', a standout northern soul-echoing jam from 1997. Deceptively simple, the record has the aura of a well-sculpted but not fussed-over travail; whether there was more effort in the edits and prepress stage than it lets on, we can't quite tell. Whatever: whether DAW or razor-and-tape, it bangs.
