Aiwo's latest comes from Dusseldorf pals Aki Aki and Rasputin under the Phaserboys alias. It's a highly impressive EP of left-of-centre house treats shot through with the saucer-eyed bliss of Balearica, the sexually charged bottom-end of disco and the late night bump of analogue deep house. It's also rather bonkers, with "Phase Energie" flitting between sections inspired by glassy-eyed '80s synth pop, sleazy acid house and psychedelic techno. Elsewhere, the duo's madcap fusions variously sound like Pilotwings jamming with DJ Sotofett ("Hallo!"), heroin-fuelled post-punk dub disco ("Including No Information") and Ijduts style, reverb-laden vibrations (opener "Ice"). As a result, this eponymous effort is undoubtedly one of the quirkiest and most entertaining EPs of the year to date.
