Canadian composer Kara-Lis Coverdale follows the widescreen expanse of From Where You Came with something radically reduced: nine pieces for solo piano, recorded in rural winter isolation. Stripping back to the instrument's bare timbre, she works with resistance, resonance and space, letting extended decays and subtle preparations colour the sound. 'Kone, Vastu' suspends jagged chords in air, while 'In Charge of the Hour' buries Satie-like simplicity in doom-like ambience. On 'Circularism', mic'd string hits become percussive shuffles threaded with ghostly rhythmic traces. 'Lowlands' recalls the haunting weight of her Aftertouches era, but in miniature. Minimal yet charged with intensity, it's an album that proves how much can still be said with just piano, silence and time.
