Most people think of electronic, house and techno music when the name Susumu Yokota comes up in conversation. Something of an unsung hero, taken long before his time - passing away at the age of 54 after a lengthy illness - it's been 11 years since his last recordings, but work like Acid Mt. Fuji and Sakura remain recognised as masterpieces in the minds of dedicated heads. Long before those 1990s outings, he was studying economics and graphic design in Japan and, presumably, toying with making tunes in his spare time. Image features a selection of work originally laid down somewhere between the degree and his career-proper as an artist, and reflects his wildly explorative streak. Organs, guitars and synths take us into a deep, meditative world of lush, Far Eastern ambient.
