Belgian four-piece Stavroz's latest album - their second, following 2022 debut Mindibu - was reportedly designed as a kind of musical corrective to the incessant noise and non-stop insanity of modern life. The title, Take a Seat, emphasises this escapist idealism and invites you to pause for a while and immerse yourself in their music - a heady, intoxicating and frequently dub-flecked fusion of deep, ear-catching basslines, effects-laden jazz horns, picturesque guitars, ambient sonics and grooves that variously draw inspiration from ultra-deep house, trip-hop, cosmic disco and post-punk. It has a sonic sensibility and atmosphere all of its own - an impressive achievement that only enhances the band's desire to take you on an aural trip into their distinctive musical universe.
