Seven years since their last full-length, Ghent's Soulwax return with All Systems Are Lying, a 14-track lambasting of the apparatus by way of modular gear, treated vocals, tape machines and live drums, but pointedly no guitars. The Dewaele brothers call it "a rock album made without any electric guitars", but it sounds more like a wired meltdown of genre logic altogether. Engineered at their Deewee studio with additional drumming from Iggor Cavalera and others, the album is like a holographic shade from a future where algorithms outshout truth and feedback loops intrude on reality. 'Pills And People Gone', 'Run Free' and 'The False Economy' pulse with urgency, cynicism and gleeful invention, suggesting the listener tune out insofar as they must tune in first.
