It has been 14 years since the first volume of Rick Wilhite's Vibes series, which speaks to the incredibly high bar he sets for the music that comes on it. This instalment brings together more of his favourite music from artists across New York, Chicago and Detroit - some of whom you will know, some you may not. In the former camp are big dogs like Moodymann who offers the rough, grinding lo-fi house of 'Fasta', and Javonette who brings soul-drenched and smoky depths to the excellent 'Donnas Maddness'. Brian Kage also brings some D Town gold with his loopy and melodic 'The Framework' while Gerald Mitchell & sparrow combine on the silky and seductive jazz house throbber that is 'Can We Talk About.' Essential stuff.
