Two raw, punk-funk anthems from the dawn of Chicago house return to wax courtesy of the brilliant Star Creature and the genre's widely agreed-upon founding father, Jesse Saunders. Officially licensed, remastered and edited for the first time on 7", these tracks capture the experimental energy of 1984's proto-house era when machine rhythms, dark moods and DIY invention collided into something utterly new and alien but deeply human at the same time. Originally released on Saunders' own Jes Say Records before later reappearing on Trax in the '90s, 'Funk-U-Up' has synth toot-toots that echo other Windy City classics and 'Fantasy' then brings some wonky rhythms and a lo-fi vocal. A fine transmission from Chicago's early underground.
