Although now more famous for delivering a string of fine releases on Apron, Greg Beato started his career with a 12" on L.I.E.S back in 2013. It's perhaps fitting, then, that he's returned to the lauded New York stable to release his first 12" of 2016. Unlike some of the label's recent output, there's a quiet positivity and subtle melodiousness about much of the material here, particularly the sparse-but-spacey analogue deep house of "Haunting". Sure, "F7" is muscular to the point of outright steroid abuse, but even the similarly fuzzy and distorted "Parts 17" comes blessed with ghostly synthesizers and deft melodic touches. Arguably best of all, though, is the slowly shifting, Future Times-ish new age house thump of "It's A Habit".
