Named after the Donovan tune, which they cover on this album, this is the essence of 1973 soul/jazz/rock fusion. We've got horns on the corners, the conga keeping things steady, a string section to add feeling, a flute to keep things breezy, and a rhodes to keep things groovy. Nice feeling on this album. Melodies are occasionally reminiscent of a soundtrack to a Blaxploitation flick (which is a good thing) and altogether works up a pretty tough atmosphere, 100% hip. And speaking of hip, this one will get in yours. Mostly a good dance vibe, one of the reasons I like this cd so much and keep coming back to it. It's got a funky feeling, but mellow at the same time. The songs are not especially long either. Like A Rainy Night (5:18), No Broken Heart (2:26), Baiao (4:01), Straussmania (4:57), Bridge Over Troubled Water (7:33), A Song For a Helping Hand (4:05), Atlantis (3:50). This is vintage rare groove stuff that I think would appeal to many. Atlantis is well described as a 1973 Jazz/Funk Orchestra Classic.
