A fresh new chapter in the dub techno pioneer's career. Flipping the concept of Rhythm & Sound's w/ The Artists, where he once appeared as guest vocalist, St. Hilaire now takes center stage across nine collaborations with an eclectic lineup of producers spanning dubstep, techno and experimental electronic music. The end result is a set of creative and genre bending tracks that keeps St. Hilaire's unmistakable voice at the heart. Opener 'Like It's Always Been' with Mala is a brooding, roots-heavy and charged tension. Shinichi Atobe's 'Time to Wake Up' delivers a hypnotic groove, while Batu's 'Free Your Mind' twists St. Hilaire's vocals into a cybernetic chant over an expansive dub treatments. Priori channels classic Rhythm & Sound minimalism on 'Send Them On', allowing space for some of St. Hilaire's most wistful reflections, and Gavsborg closes with the spooked-out, Caribbean-infused' Confidential'. Each collaborator leaves their mark, yet this is clearly St. Hilaire's domain as his warm and commanding tone binding everything together. Nearly 30 years on from his seminal Rhythm & Sound recordings, w/ The Producers proves that his voice remains one of the deepest and most evocative in dub.
