Two towering names in Peruvian cumbia go head to head on this 7" reissue of the slinky psych-cumbia staple 'Sonido Amazonico'. Ranil Y Su Conjunto Tropical - led by the Iquitos-born musician and radio DJ Raul Llerena Vasquez - bring a slightly rawer, funkier tilt to the tune, while the more compact take from fellow Iquitos outfit Los Wembler's De Iquitos delivers a pared-back, percussion-forward groove. Both bands were key figures in shaping the so-called "Amazonian sound" of the early 70s, blending surf-inspired guitar lines with local rhythms and a generous dose of fuzz. This is the first time these versions of 'Sonido Amazonico' have appeared together on 7" vinyl, giving a fresh spin on a track long considered a cornerstone of the genre.
