Leeds artist George Evelyn, after three decades of continuous floorshaking under the well-storied name Nightmares On Wax, recalls his own bassbin-hauling upbringing with a new double LP, Echo45 Sound System. Named after the battered speaker box he bought for a fiver as a teenager, the record stretches across soul, dub, hip-hop and electronic textures, cut as thirteen new tracks and a continuous pirate-radio-style mix. Guests include Yasiin Bey on the lead single 'Bang Bien', Greentea Peng, Liam Bailey, Sadie Walker and Oscar Jerome, with vocal drops from UK scene staples Gilles Peterson, Goldie, Daddy G, Natasha Diggs, Moxie and Cosmo. Out first as a digital release and then on gold vinyl, it's a Warp Records milestone from the label's longest-serving artist, linking his early Smokers Delight haze to a new, forward pulse.
