New York composer-pianist Kelly Moran works at the selvedge between niche piano technique and electronic process, thanks to years hung between concert hall and clubspace. This album lands as her fifth full-length and a return to material first sketched after 2018's Ultraviolet, her debut for Warp; those early notions intoned on ambient rhythm and ostinata, but the pandemic and a period of personal rupture diverted her toward the more austere Moves In The Field in 2024. Picking the thread back up, this record folds more prepared piano, distortion and pulse into songs concerned with fracture and recalibration, hence the incredulous title. Note the Warp labelmate collab with Bibio, remarking her still formative place in the electronic music canon.
