On "Ibrida", the opening track from their first 12" in two years from Donato Dozzy and Giuseppe Tillieci's Voices From The Lake project, the Italian duo's intentions are clear. Raw, stripped-back, heavy and more than a little creepy, the track seems tailor-made for moments of locked-in, heads-down abandon. "258" retains the spookiness and rhythmic sparsity, lacing a wonky electronic riff over a hissing, thumping groove. It's only on closer "Secondo Tempo" that they open up a little, conjuring up a more complex, undulating rhythm amongst the wall-of-sound textures, throbbing bass and looped melodies. While it may lack the back-to-basics dancefloor appeal of its' predecessors, it is nevertheless a hugely attractive proposition. A fine start for Dozzy and Tilliecoi's Spazio Disponibile label.
