Paris based artist Dissemblance lands on Mannequin with her fantastic debut album here. It's a compelling mix of proper song structures, occasional pop hooks but plenty of stern synth, collage and industrial styles that are blurred round the edges. Softening the grit somewhat are her own vocal apparitions, which lend the whole bleak, haunting and sparse soundtrack a slightly more human feel next to the compelling drum programming. Gloomy but inviting, tense but rewarding, this is fresh new perspective that draws on things as unlikely as surf pop, dreary rock and techno minimalism.
