Stroom's latest must-have retrospective delves deep into the largely unknown career of Cybe, a producer from the Low Countries who released three overlooked cassettes of humid, synthesizer-heavy new age tracks in the early 1980s. Tropisch Verlangen gathers together the best material from these tapes, all of which were inspired by the musician's travels in India, Java, Thailand, Bali and Indonesia as a young man. Musically, it sits somewhere between the hazy rainforest ambience of the Chi Factory, spacey early electronica, the kind of tracks showcased on Jan Schulte's recent Tropical Drums of Deutschland compilation and, on the inspired "Zen-Lan", the guitars-and-synths bliss of Rainbow Dome Musik-era Steve Hillage.
