The trio - pianist/keyboardist/producer Moses Yoofee, bassist Roman Klobe-Baranga, and drummer Noah Fürbringer -has made a name for themselves in recent years with spectacular live shows in clubs in Germany and beyond. Influenced by R&B, hip-hop, and soul as well as more traditional jazz, Ocean's songs reflect the spontaneity, inspiration, and instinctive sophistication of their live performances. The gloriously hectic title track and the increasingly ecstatic Minor Issues contrast with the more restrained complexity of At Ease - and while the hypnotic rhythm of Fragile betrays their love of hip-hop, the lush Richmond is propelled by a gloriously serene groove before shifting into high gear at its climax. "Everyone loves fusion," say the band, "even if no one admits it," but that's just one element of the trio's sophisticated style, where Moses' exceptional keyboard skills meet Roman's flowing bass lines and Noah's tight drum patterns.
